Finding the right temperature
In general, room temperatures should be between 18 and 22°C, but not all rooms are the same. Here we give some advice about finding the right temperature for each room and how to set your thermostatic radiator valves.
Living room
The ideal temperature in the living room is between 19 and 22°C. This is where we spend a lot of time, often for long periods sitting still, so it’s likely that you might start to feel a bit cooler. The higher you set your temperature, the more energy you’ll use – so try to stay below 21° if you can.
What is the ideal room temperature for summer and winter?Bathroom
It’s best to set your bathroom to around 22°, making sure it’s comfortable for those all-important moments in the morning or evening. Running the bath or shower will create humidity that keeps more warmth in the air – meaning that your boiler won’t have to do as much work to maintain the temperature.
Bedroom
Your bedroom doesn’t need to be as warm as other rooms. This is because you generally spend your time there sleeping and under covers. A bedroom’s ideal temperature should be no higher than 20° – and it could be as low as 15 or 16°.
How to set my thermostatic radiator valves
- Experiment until you find the right temperature for you
- Once you’ve chosen your temperatures, leave the valves alone – they will do their work naturally
- Resist the temptation to open the valve all the way when you go into the room in the morning and find it too cold
- Avoid setting the valve to minimum when it’s too hot
